TEMPORARY ENERGY TASK FORCEOn 12/19/2007, the Temporary Energy Task Force submitted a presentation to the Board of Selectmen entitled "Solar On Schools." To download the presentation, click here. The Town of Canton is committed to making at least 20% of its energy purchases come from clean energy sources by the year 2010. The purpose of this task force is to thoroughly explore the options for meeting the 20% by 2010 goal. They will do this by:reviewing and reporting on options for assisting the Town in meeting their goal of purchasing 20% of the Town's electricity from clean sources by 2010;reviewing and reporting on strategies to encourage all businesses, institutions and households within Canton to adopt the 20% by 2010 goals;reviewing and reporting on how other communities within the State of connecticut are meeting the 20% by 2010 goals; and,making recommendations to the Board of Selectmen on ways to conserve energy; and strategies for publicizing the free PV panels for each 100 taxpayers who sign up to purchase clean energy through CL&P.
The task force was established in August of 2006 for a period not to exceed twenty-four (24) months.

CTCleanEnergyOptions is a Department of Public Utilities Control (DPUC) approved program that allows any CL&P customer the opportunity to support clean energy made from approved renewable resources such as wind, small hydro and landfill gas. Customers who enroll continue to receive electric delivery service from their utility and pay a small clean energy surcharge. Canton has joined the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities program.
